Who makes it
Hi, I'm Alex, better known online as AlexFlipnote. I've been coding for around 11 years, making Discord bots like xelA and KawaiiBot, open source tools like discord.http, and browser extensions like Homepage++, a clean new tab page. Whatever I make, I keep going over it until it's quick and light, the optimising is half the fun for me.
ffxiv.watch is a one-person project, the code is open source on GitHub, so anyone can see how it works and where every number comes from. If something's wrong, missing or could be better, tell me there or on Discord. Feedback, bug reports and ideas are all welcome.
Where the data comes from
- The game's own data, datamined by XIVAPI's ffxiv-datamining: the nodes, fish, vistas, zones and weather rates, with the maps and icons from XIVAPI.
- When each fish bites, its bait and intuition, from Carbuncle Plushy's fish tracker.
- The other fish's bait, hookset and tug, blue fish times and hidden node items, from Teamcraft.
- Maintenance and events, from the official Lodestone.
- The PvP map rotations, from PvP Calendar.
The timers and weather forecasts are worked out from the game's own rules, the same way the game does it, so they don't wait on anyone reporting them. How often something is up, and the longest wait for it, comes from a year of those forecasts.
How often it's updated
The Lodestone is checked every hour, so new maintenance and events show up on their own. The game data is updated after each patch, once the datamined files have it.
